The highly anticipated Skoda Slavia sedan has finally been launched in India. However, the Czech carmaker has only revealed prices of the 1.0 TSI powered versions today, which start at Rs 10.69 lakh and go up to Rs 15.39 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-spec version. Prices for the more powerful 1.5 TSI version will be announced on March 3. Skoda has also announced that test drives and deliveries for the Slavia 1.0 TSI have begun from today.

Skoda Slavia: design and features

Based on the MAB A0 IN platform, the Skoda Slavia measures 4541mm in length, 1752mm in width and 1487mm in height with the segment’s longest wheelbase of 2651mm. Compared to its replacement (Skoda Rapid), the Slavia is 128mm longer, 53mm wider and 21mm taller. With a long wheelbase, the sedan ensures ample cabin space even for the rear seat passengers. It offers the best-in-class boot space of 520-litres.

Skoda has packed the all-new Slavia with lots of goodies including a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a premium audio system with 6-speakers and a sub-woofer, automatic climate control, an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, connected car tech, a digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, auto wipers and auto headlamps. With respect to safety, the top-end trim of Skoda Slavia offers 6 airbags, an electronic differential system (EDS), electronic stability control, hill hold control, and a rear parking camera.

Skoda Slavia: powertrain

The smaller capacity gasoline unit produces a peak power of 115bhp and 175Nm of torque, the 1.5L motor delivers 150bhp against 250Nm. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission is reserved for the 1.0L TSI variants, while a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is available only on the 1.5L TSI models. One must note that the more powerful 1.5L petrol engine will be exclusively offered on the fully-loaded Style trim.

The 1.0 TSI manual powertrain delivers an ARAI mileage of 19.47kpl, while the automatic version is rated at 18.07kpl.

In comparison, the 121hp, 145Nm, 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine in the latest gen Honda City delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 17.8kpl with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and 18.4kpl with the CVT automatic option.
